Slon had looked over some plans for the new port and finally decided that it was time to begin construction on it. It was going to be a major leap forward for Stafford and for England, as nothing on this scale had been done before. A great deal of planning had gone into this already, but there was plenty of work ahead. A great window of opportunity was before Stafford, and all that needed to happen was for somebody to open it. While standing on a hill looking over the river running near Derby, he knew that this was the perfect place for a port. All that was left now was labor, but it would be labor that would be greatly rewarded. He got onto his horse and rode quickly to the capital, knowing that he would find some potential opportunity seekers there. As he rides into the center of the city, he dismounts and loudly says to the crowd of people,

"Citizens of Stafford County, lend me your ears! Are you interested in becoming rich? Tired of your usual farming and mining life and want some excitement? Yearning for opportunity? Want to make your county an inspiration to the world? If so, join me in what could be considered the largest project in Stafford history! We are constructed a harbor in the town of Derby and need your help. Of course, we are not asking you to give up work days with compensation. Everyone who works on the harbor will receive a very reasonable daily wage of 18 pounds, now isn't that tempting? You will be working alongside your friends and even your elected officials will be present on the work-site, doing the same work that you will be doing. Surely, if even members of the County Council are working there, it must be both exciting and well paying! These people are nobles, and they don't consider this work to be beneath them! The place to be right now is Derby, come along and don't miss out on this opportunity of a lifetime. "

Slon, hoping that his message was heard, climbed onto his horse once again and prepared to return to the work site.

OOC: In order to work on the project, you do have to be located in Derby. However, you are strongly encouraged to travel there.

thistle had heard all about the port being built. he was really excited by it all but he couldent get carried away, he had his duties in ludlow.

"Hi Nick! If you want to help construct the port, you should travel as soon as you can to Derby. It is 2 days of travel from Birmingham. If you travel to Lichfield, you'll see Derby. Its right by the river. Can't miss it." Telcara sighed and looked at all the people around preparing to travel, wishing she could go with them. "We already have a full group of 5 people from Shrewsbury who will leave today."

Maybe you can advertise in Birmingham, or ask your mayor Salter to put up a notice in the town hall so you can travel in a group. Safer and much more fun!"

I live round the corner from the port in derby. The jobs for the port will they be advertised in the town hall or within in the port itself?. I think goods times are falling on Derby I just hope the taverns are well stocked with plenty of ale.

With the increased wage how would this affect the market?

Job offers for the Port will be placed in the usual section under the Town Hall.

The higher wages will offer more money to our less skilled workers meaning a possible higher demand for Stat Foods such as Meat, Milk, and Veggies.

Arthur hadn't wanted to get caught up in the hype with the discovery of the natural port in Derby, but it seemed like most of the other councilors did. Some in particular were very quick to jump into the construction of the harbor without considering the ramifications of their actions. He was worried... and yet, a little excited about the prospects of opening up Stafford (and England) to the rest of the world. He wanted to visit his family in Ireland, Benji in Scotland, and even some of his friends in the Spanish countries. The Tudor family would most likely want to commission the building of a ship for personal travel, but he didn't want to tell his family the news yet. Tasite, Nova, and Ming were packing up to leave back to Cumberland because of an army skirmish at the border, and he wasn't ready to break the news about his plans. He needed time to process it all anyways. He wasn't one to jump into things and figure how they would work later. He usually had a direct focus and well thought out plan before making a decision. He liked accounting for externalizes that could ruin or threaten his decisions because he could focus on avoiding the mistakes.

With the news of Stafford having a harbor, he had reached out to his contacts across the continents to discover where natural ports were located as well as which counties would be distracted with the construction process. He had spoken to his family in Ireland, and there were many natural ports discovered. But it was found the foundations were too weak to handle the construction upgrade to a small harbor and they would focus on rebuilding that first before the harbor would take priority. Rumors were spread through England and by Irish ambassadors that 'Antoland' was presented with resources to fix the foundations of the natural port and allow them to upgrade to a small harbor, but he knew it was not true. Reports had been sent to him by many that the foundations of the Antoland harbor were horrible, and that the King, who was usually at odds with Anto, would likely offer no aid.

Information was being gathered by the scribes of Stafford regarding harbor construction and it was found that only three countries were able to upgrade natural ports, particularly England, Portugal, and Italy. Some natural ports were blessed with resources directly by the King to aid them in the construction upgrade. He was sad that Stafford hadn't been noticed. He wondered what he could do to make the King aware of Stafford's dedication and loyalty to the Crown. Maybe the Regent would be able to communicate with the King on Stafford's behalf.. it was a long-shot, and one he would have to consider more carefully before writing Lady Gabrielle.

"The defendant stands accused of 8 counts of poaching, 4 counts of arson, ..."The Red drummed his fingers as the bailiff droned, and considered the chained man before him. "... 17 counts of premeditated murder, 3 counts of fraud, ..." A hardcase if he ever saw one, even the man's attorney was terrified of him. There was no mistaking the death in his eyes. Red was impressed. "... 37 counts of aggravated rape, and 1 moving violation."

"Your Honor?"

"We've finished the reading of the charges, Your Honor."

"Yes, quite,"The Red addressed the defendant, "Do you wish to make a statement before I render the verdict?" The man hawked and spat.

"Very well, I find you guilty on all counts, and sentence you to a life of hard labor in the Derby harbor" The man paled and sank to his knees.

"No, you can't do this to me..."

"Indeed I can. Take him away!" The bailiffs dragged the struggling man back to the cells. "NoooooOOOoooOoooo..."

The Red considered the howling with a critic's ear. It's good to be the judge.

"Bring the next case."

A man ran through the streets with news from the King. The King has repaired the foundations across the world. All natural ports are allowed construction!

Jorne had been working tirelessly for the past couple of days helping the construction of the port. Building various foundations with his tools he sort of micro-managed with a few others to help lay the initial grounding.
"We still have a lot of work to do, but we can do this!"

Matt lived in ludlow but was worried on his way we might be mugged but he so wanted to go but didnt know where to go and get a stafford guard escort to derby.

No need to bother the Stafford Guard. Form your own work gang to travel to Derby. Bring as many carpenters and blacksmiths as you can.

You might also check in Shrewsbury, as they might be sending another work gang to Derby. Mail Telcara, the Shrewsbury mayor.

A frightened messenger boy flew from the county's blockhouse on the outskirts of Derby, followed by an enraged RedChef. He glowered for a long moment as he watched the messenger grow smaller in the distance, before storming back to the port site.

A man ran through the streets with news from Ireland. The port in 'Antoland' has completed the first phase of construction! They have been stalled in working on phase 2 because of impending battle from two Munster armies!
